Racism: Naga youths quarantined in Gujarat for no reason

Gujarat : At a time when entire India is fighting against the COVID-19, some North-easterners, who have been living or staying in different parts of the country for different purposes, have, reportedly, been undergoing different ordeals in the hands of their counterparts. In other words, racism against the North-easterners has increased as such news emerged from different parts of the country by the day. At first, some students of the North-east, who have been studying in different colleges of Delhi, faced such tortures. After that in Gujarat, a group of Naga youths had faced racism. Their ordeal was more egregious as they were confined in a hospital cabin kept for suspected coronavirus positive patient for 24 hours without any reason. “We never toured any foreign country and we did not suffer from fever or cold. Despite that, we were quarantined for 24 hours. It happened as we look like Chinese. Despite our repeated requests the police detained us and took us to a hospital in Ahmedabad to quarantine us,” said Cathy Chakhesang, who is a member of that group. The 24-year-old Naga woman informed media that their group consisted of nine youths among them six are women of different ages. She alleged that the police had taken action against them based on a complaint filed by unknown persons. Chakhesang has been living in Ahmedabad for the last three years and working for an insurance company. She also said that the doctors did not collect their blood samples as they did not exhibit any symptom of suffering from the coronavirus infection. “It was a clear case of racism,” alleged one of her friends.
