Rahul Gandhi and Malikarjun Kharge to Visit Meghalaya and Nagaland

SHILLONG: The northeastern states of Meghalaya and Nagaland are going to elect their new assembly. With the voting procedure less than one week away, political heavy-weights from different parties are now visiting the states to campaign for their own candidates.

According to reports from the Indian National Congress, the president and the former president of the party will also be taking part in the election campaigning in the states of Nagaland and Meghalaya. The national party is attempting to make a mark in the upcoming elections in these states ahead of the general elections which is due next year.

Malikarjun Kharge is the current president of the Indian National Congress and is scheduled to visit and address political rallies in the state of Nagand on Tuesday, February 21 while former president of the party, Rahul Gandhi will be visiting and campaigning in Meghalaya on Wednesday, February 22.

The leaders of the other regional and national parties are also leaving no stone unturned in carrying out campaigning in the state. Senior members of the Bharatiya Janata Party including the National president Jagat Prakash Nadda and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah. While Jagat Prakash Nadda visited both states to release the election manifesto for the election, Amit Shah started two-day campaigning for the elections in Mon of Nagaland on Monday.

Assam's chief minister is also working towards campaigning in both the northeastern states at full swing. He has visited multiple constituencies and participated in election rallies of various Bharatiya Janata Party candidates in both the states.

With the death of one United Democratic Party candidate in Meghalaya and the uncontested winning of a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate in Nagaland, elections will now be held for 59 out of the 60 constituencies in these states. The voting process will take place on February 27 and counting will be done on March 2.
