KOHIMA: The Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO) has expressed optimism following a fruitful tripartite meeting on the creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) held on December 13, 2024, in New Delhi.

The meeting, a continuation of discussions between ENPO and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), was convened under the direction of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

ENPO officials, which include President M. Honang Konyak and General Secretary Chingmak Chang, stated that the primary demand of the people of Eastern Nagaland remains the formation of a separate state, Frontier Nagaland. However, keeping in view the present problems of the government, ENPO has agreed to the FNT proposal for now, granting executive, legislative, and financial autonomy to the region.

ENPO appreciated the efforts of the MHA committee led by AK Mishra with dedication and sincerity in attending to the aspirations of the Eastern Nagaland people. It also expressed confidence that the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will honor the commitment to Frontier Nagaland.

The next round of tripartite talks is scheduled for February 2025. The discussions will center on some of the outstanding issues related to the FNT proposal. ENPO still hopes that the government will continue its commitment to the fulfillment of the aspirations of the people of Eastern Nagaland. In addition, ENPO thanked the Nagaland government for its timely input on the MoS Draft, which helped progress the recent meeting.
