NESO Writes To Amit Shah To Withdraw Decision Imposing Hindi In Northeast

NEW DELHI: The NESO (Northeast Students' Organization) has recently written a letter to the Home Minister Amit Shah to revoke the decision of imposing Hindi as a compulsory subject in the northeast.

The organization in the letter regarded the imposition of the Hindi language in northeastern schools as an unfavourable policy and urged the union home minister to withdraw it.

NESO which is the apex student group of 8 student bodies has instead demanded the home minister initiate necessary steps to ensure the upliftment of the indigenous language of the regions.

The chairman of NESO Samuel Jyrwa and General Secretary Sinam Prakash Singh in their letter to Amit Shah stated that imposing Hindi in the schools of the northeast will be detrimental not only to the propagation and dissemination of the indigenous language but also to the students who will have another compulsory subject in their already existing vast curriculum.

The student body stated that each state in the northeast has its own diversified and unique languages that are spoken by diverse ethnic communities from Indo-Aryan to Tibeto-Burman to Austro- Asiatic families.

NESO added that a mother tongue or the native language is a very significant marker for any community and native languages are being enhanced in various aspects including academics, literature and arts.

The Northeast Students' Organization stands totally against the policy of adding Hindi as a compulsory subject in Northeast schools and it will continuously oppose this similarly as the organization has done in the past.

According to the NESO, such an initiative by the government will not bring unity and peace to the country but it will instead be a method to create disharmony among people and states.

It may be mentioned that since the announcement by the Home Minister regarding the imposition of Hindi languages in the northeast various organizations in from the region has raised voice opposing this move.
