The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), has accelerated the electrification of Broad-Gauge sections under its control that were previously unelectric. According to the most recent information provided by Sabyasachi De, the Chief Public Relations Officer for NFR, the railway network has electrified 2583 Route Kilometers (RKM), or 61.00% of its 4260 RKM total. “Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in the rapid pace of electrification across our jurisdiction,” stated CPRO Sabyasachi De in a press communiqué issued on Monday.
Indian Railway Construction International Limited (IRCON), Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), and NFR's construction teams are carrying out the electrification projects in stages throughout the zone's several sections. In addition to improving train mobility on NFR, this strategic approach seeks to strengthen the rail network in the northeastern states, offering a quicker, more environmentally friendly, and more energy-efficient form of transportation.
“This transformation will significantly reduce pollution levels and decrease reliance on imported crude oil, leading to substantial savings in foreign currency,” emphasized CPRO Sabyasachi De. Additionally, by removing traction change delays, electrification will improve train service timeliness and optimize traffic flow.
A significant step towards sustainable development, Indian Railways' ambitious electrification push promises a greener future while improving rail connections and operational efficiency throughout the region.
