
The activities draw attention to ongoing investigations and growing worries about drug smuggling.
On July 16, in two different operations in Teliamura, Khowai District, and Agartala, West District, Tripura police confiscated a huge shipment of Yaba tablets valued at over Rs 11 crore.
An autorickshaw was stopped on suspicion during a routine vehicle check at the 41 Mile Naka Point in the morning, according to Panna Lal Sen, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Teliamura Sub-division under Khowai District.
"During the search, our personnel noticed a strong medicinal smell coming from the vehicle. Immediately, senior officers including Khowai District Superintendent of Police Randitya Das and the Deputy Collector and Magistrate were rushed to the spot. Upon thorough inspection, we recovered 10 large black packets containing approximately 1 lakh Yaba tablets," SDPO Sen said.
The estimated black market value of the confiscated tablets is around Rs 10 crore.
Suman Majumder and Bikas Deb, two of the passengers in the autorickshaw, have been arrested together. under order to identify the origin and planned destination of the drugs, a case has been filed and additional questioning is under progress.
In a different operation, a combined squad from the Tripura Police, Assam Rifles, and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) stopped a truck carrying cement in the Khayerpur neighborhood of Agartala city.
Officials searched the car and discovered 30 packets of Yaba pills concealed among the cement sacks. The truck driver was able to escape the scene. The second haul's estimated value is around Rs 1 crore, according to preliminary estimates.
These incidents demonstrate the region's increasing threat from cross-border drug smuggling. More investigations are underway, and authorities have increased their vigilance along the international and interstate borders.
