LAKHIMPUR: Massive protests against the brutal killing of two persons of Assam by Arunanchali miscreants on Monday at Joyrampur under the Dhemaji district continues in Lakhimpur.
On Monday, Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) condemned the heinous deeds of the aggressive Arunanchali miscreants and slammed the Government of Assam alleging its failure with regard to protecting the Assamese people living in the Assam-Arunanchal border area. In this connection, the activists of the organization burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The organization said that the incident had reflected the weakness and failure of the Government of Assam in controlling the violence created by Arunanchali miscreants against Assam and Assamese people in the Assam-Arunachal border area.
On the other hand, around 10 organizations staged protest against Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday in connection with the issue. They initiated road blockade at Pahumara Tiniali of NH-15 and blocked the vehicles leading to Arunanchal Pradesh along Dizoo-Kimin Road. The protesting organizations demanded the governments of Assam and Arunanchal Pradesh to arrest the culprits and to reward exemplary punishment and resolve the long-standing border dispute in the true sense.
Notably, two persons were killed and two others injured when a group of unidentified men from Arunanchal Pradesh opened fire in the Panbari area of Assam’s Dhemaji district on Monday. The two men who died were identified as Boga Chutia and Monitu Gogoi. The two injured persons, Puspa Gogoi and Akoni Gohain, were admitted to the hospital and are being treated. Police said that Boga Chutia was a resident of Borbila Chutiakari village while the other three were from Milonpur village under the Dhemaji district. Reports said that the victims were among those who had gone to a location along the inter-state boundary to make arrangements for a plantation drive to mark World Environment Day when they came under fire.
