Fresh Clashes Reported Between Indian & Chinese Troops in Sikkim

GANGTOK: In a recent development Indian and Chinese soldiers have engaged in a tussle at Naku La in Sikkim last week, resulting in injuries on both sides, reports said on Monday, 25 January.

As per the reports, China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) made an attempt to intrude, resulting in the clashes, leaving as many as 20 Chinese troops and four Indian soldiers injured.

Reportedly, the situation is said to be under control at the moment.

According to news agency ANI, "It's clarified that there was a minor face-off between Indian Army & Chinese PLA troops at Naku La, Sikkim on 20th January. It was resolved by local commanders as per established protocols: Indian Army."

It needs to be mentioned here that the Indian and Chinese soldiers have been frequently engaged in skirmishes and face-offs that led to high-level talks and dis-engagement at the border areas. The last being the Doklam stand-off near Sikkim.

The latest incident comes months after the violent face-off that took place on June 15, 2020, when PLA soldiers clashed with the Indian troops in the Galwan valley of eastern Ladakh.

Earlier on January 18, satellite images surfaced on the social media claiming it to be new construction of a village on the banks of the River Tsari Chu, lies in the Upper Subansiri district.

The images went air by Planet Lab Inc. According to reports, satellite images confirms a new village with around 101 homes on the banks of the River Tsari Chu which lies in the Upper Subansiri district.

Notably, the area which has been long disputed by India and China and has been marked by armed conflict and is located 1 km north of the existing Chinese military outpost. The image also stated with a photo caption stating that the first satellite image was taken on August 26, 2019- does not show any construction activity, however, the latest image that establishes the village in question is dated November 1, 2020.
