GANGTOK: The Indian Army has integrated advanced technology with outstanding teamwork to tackle the distinct challenges presented by Sikkim’s rugged terrain and unexpected emergencies.

In an impressive initiative, the Army deployed the advanced ATOR N1200 Specialist Mobility Vehicle (SMV) to traverse the snow-clad mountains and challenging terrain of Sikkim.

This cutting-edge vehicle, built for extreme conditions, has greatly enhanced troop mobility and operational efficiency. Commenting on its impact, an Army official remarked, “The ATOR N1200 SMV is a revolutionary addition, offering unparalleled mobility in areas where conventional vehicles fall short.”

The Army's quick response capabilities were further demonstrated on December 29 when a fire broke out at 11 Mile, Kalimpong.

The Indian Army’s Quick Reaction Team (QRT) swiftly intervened, collaborating closely with local authorities and firefighters. Their combined efforts effectively contained the fire, stopping its spread and ensuring the safety of residents.

Meanwhile, the previous day, local authorities reported on Monday that six tourists from Assam, who had been stranded in North Sikkim due to heavy snowfall, were successfully rescued while traveling on motorcycles. The group had been stranded in the Yakshe area, about 10 kilometers from Lachung in the Mangan district, since Sunday night.

The situation was worsened by the presence of black ice on the roads, which prevented the motorcycles from continuing their journey. As the snowstorm worsened, the tourists became trapped in the severe conditions. In response, police officers, assisted by local residents, organized a rescue operation to bring the stranded tourists to safety.
