According to reports the newborn baby girl was found dumped in the forest at Singling near Soreng. The baby is in good health and is now under the care at Soreng Hospital.
Soon after the incident the Soreng police have started investigation into the incident.
Earlier in September 07, The District Child Protection Officer of the District Child Protection Unit in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya has issued a press release on an abandoned baby boy that was found inside the premises of the Lawei Baphyrnai Children Home Boys in Shillong.
The press release was shared on the official Twitter handle of the Meghalaya government. The press release stated: "This is for the general information that on the 3rd September 2021, an infant baby boy was found abandoned inside the premises of the Lawei Baphyrnai Children Home Boysact Sheila at Langkyrding Block-2, Shillong. The infant is now under the Care and Protection of the Child Welfare Committee Shillong. It is therefore requested that anyone having any sort of information regarding the whereabouts of the Biological parents/ mother or relatives of the infant baby, may kindly inform the office of the undersigned at the earliest.
The child will be declared Legally Rree for Adoption, if no response is made within a period of two months from the date of publication."
In other news, protesters from a total of 11 local organizations organized a unique 'pyndem tari' (knife surrender) rally in Shillong to protest against the government's failure in suspending police personnel responsible for the killing of a former militant leader on August 13. A large number of youths and activists, including women, along with leaders of the "Ka Sur Ki Nongmawlai", an umbrella body of the 11 local organizations, took part in the rally demanding suspension of the police personnel responsible for the killing of militant outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council's former general secretary Cheristerfield Thangkhiew.
