REC Commits Rs 18.48 Crore To Boost Health And Education in West Sikkim

An elite Central government endeavor, REC Ltd has committed to provide CSR funds amounting to Rs. 16.85 crore for remodeling government school education in West Sikkim. Another Rs. 1.63 crore is being provided by the REC Ltd for upgrading Geyzing hospital and 7 public health centres in West Sikkim.

REC (formerly Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd) could be a Navratna company under the executive management of the Ministry of Power and promotes a rural electrification project across India.

An IPR release informs that the memorandum of agreement for the two projects was executed on a weekday at New Delhi between the REC Foundation and Karma R Bonpo, district magistrate, West Sikkim.

Bonpo signed the agreement with REC Foundation CEOS.N. Srinivas in presence of top REC Ltd officers.

The IPR release informs that the CSR support from REC Ltd for transformation education and health sectors of West Sikkim is as per the project proposals submitted by the west district magistrate.

The Central public sector endeavor is providing Rs. 16.85 crore for 'transforming school education in West Sikkim' project. The amount is for strengthening the school library, science laboratory, organizing science & technology fairs, enlisting of mathematics lecturers, providing smart class, renovation of the hostel, providing furnishings, coaching of teachers & exposure visit of lecturers, students, etc. in government schools of West Sikkim.

The REC will also extend the CSR support of Rs. 1.63 crore for providing medical equipment and instruments in the district hospital, Geyzing and 7 public health sectors of West Sikkim. The population of West Sikkim is around 1.6 lakh who solely rely on government healthcare institution for medical treatment.

It was informed that the west district magistrate, as per the directions of Chief Minister P.S. Golay, had submitted a comprehensive project to REC foundation for West Sikkim.

REC chief managing director Ajeet Agarwal and REC Foundation chief executive officer S.N. Srinivas took a keen interest within the development of West Sikkim and consequently, provided the CSR assistance.

The execution of the two CSR-assisted projects would begin by next month.
