Sikkim Becomes Latest State in Northeast to See ₹100 a Litre Petrol

GANGTOK: Sikkim became the first state in the northeast to see Rs 100 per litre petrol price after yet another hike in fuel rates. With states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bihar, Punjab and Ladakh, Sikkim joined that list on Sunday.

Notably, Petrol in the state capital Gangtok is now priced at Rs 100.15 a litre and diesel comes for Rs 91.55. Meanwhile, petrol prices in Guwahati have been turning more volatile, as prices of crude oil have been showing a firm trend.

Today petrol price in Guwahati stands at ₹ 95.65 (5th July 2021) while diesel stands at ₹ 88.70 per litre.

Fuel prices in the country have been on a steep rise since the starting of May. The petrol price has jumped 35 times since then. After today's revision, the petrol price in Delhi stands at Rs 99.90 a litre. In Mumbai, petrol is all set to touch an all-time high of Rs 106. On July 5, petrol is priced at Rs 105. 95 a litre in the financial capital. Petrol also nears the Rs 100-per-litre mark in Kolkata. The fuel is being sold at Rs 99.88 per litre in the eastern city. With the latest revision, the price of petrol increased to Rs 100.78 per litre in Chennai.

Diesel price has increased 34 times in the last two months. However, it remained unchanged on July 5. A litre of diesel is being sold at Rs 96.91 in Mumbai and Rs 89.36 in Delhi. On Monday, diesel remained the same at Rs 93.94 per litre in Chennai. In Kolkata, a litre of diesel will cost Rs 92.31 on July 5.

Remember, petrol and diesel prices are revised daily, so you can lose much if you are travelling on a long-distance. The rupee has also moved lower against the dollar, which has made petrol prices in Guwahati more expensive than before. It is hoped that the government can reduce excise duties, so as to enable rates to become cheaper in the coming days.
