Sikkim Chief Minister acknowledges Guitarist Ladorjee Tamang with Letter of appreciation and cash reward

West Sikkim youth Ladorjee Tamang, who recently won a guitar solo competition at national youth festival and after received a letter of appreciation from the Chief Minister along with a cash reward for bringing laurel for the State, said he is grateful to Chief Minister for acknowledging his talent and achievement.

“This award and acknowledgment have given me the encouragement to figure tougher and pursue my dream of turning into a successful musician with additional dedication,” said Tamang.

The 27-year-old resident of Magarzung village is West Sikkim had won 1st prize within the guitar competition at national youth festival at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh attended by youth from 32 states and union territories. Sikkim had participated in several competitions together with folks dance, song, light harmonium reed organ classical song, one-act play, elocution, and guitar solo and it was in the guitar solo competition won the first prize.

Tamang and a guitarist from Maharashtra were adjudged joint winners.

He was selected to represent Sikkim at the national youth festival after excelling in the selection trail held in the state in October 2019. “It was extremely a proud moment for me, to perform for the state at the national level and win. I had never thought of going so far and winning,” he said.

Tamang said he has recently received a proposal from a band in Siliguri. “But I haven’t responded to them. If I get better offers, I will definitely go ahead and show my talent.”

Sports and Youth Affairs secretary Kuber Bhandari congratulated Tamang for the “historic” deed. Sikkim had not accomplished such deed at a national level before, he said.

He credited the extensive encouragement and support from the Chief Minister and Sports minister for such achievements. “It is due to their sporting nature the hidden talents of the State are facilitated with the national-level platform and us on behalf of the department would like to express our gratitude too.”

The secretary additionally hailed lifter Pemba Tshering Sherpa for winning a medal at the Khelo India Youth Games.
