Chief Minister P.S. Golay has expressed pain and conveyed his condolence on the passing away of former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in New Delhi.
In his condolence message, Chief Minister Golay states, "I lament to know about the death of Sheila Dikshit. She was the three time Chief Minister of Delhi who changed the essence of it totally. Our condolences to her family and friends. Hope they find strength in this time of grief."
Similarly, former Chief Minister and SDF president Pawan Chamling said the passing away of such a senior and recognized leader is an unsalvageable misfortune to the country and the people.
“I offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and pray that God give them the strength and fortitude to bear this great loss,” wrote Chamling on his social media page.
Sheila Dikshit, the three-time Delhi Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, takes her last breath at the age of 81 on Saturday. The veteran Congress leader passed away in a Delhi hospital.
Reportedly, the former Delhi CM was admitted at Escorts hospital in the morning on Saturday for being unwell.
Born on 31 March 1938, she had made the record of being the Delhi CM for 15 consecutive years that ranged from 1998 to 2013.
In her last election of the Delhi Legislative Assembly held on December 2013, she was defeated by Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal and Kejriwal later replaced her as the Delhi chief minister.
Before this, an almost sound and fit Sheila Dikshit was also appointed as the President of the city unit in January this year. She had replaced Ajay Maken as he had decided to step down from the position citing his health issues.
The party leader of Indian National Congress Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and others have expressed their grief and shock over the sudden death of Dixit. With a vast experience of working with the leaders of the Congress right from late Indira Gandhi, late Rajiv Gandhi to the present generation of the Gandhi family, Sheila Dixit had worked with every Congress chief and was well-favoured for her dutifulness.
