
GANGTOK: Police in Gangtok are investigating the cause of a man's death after he was discovered dead inside his car at the Deorali Taxi Stand on New Year's Day.
In the early hours of January 1, the body of Laku Tshering Sherpa was discovered unconscious in his taxi. After hearing about the discovery from another family member, his brother-in-law, Jonathan Rai, notified the authorities.
Under Section 194 of the BNSS Act, 2023, the police have initiated a formal investigation and filed FIR No. 01/2025. Authorities have released Sherpa's body to his family after conducting a medico-legal autopsy.
In a silimar case, a suspicious death was reported in Guwahati's Hengerabari area on December 27, where the decomposed body of Dwijen Das, a Public Health Engineering Department Upper Division Clerk, was found in the attic of his government quarters.
Dwijen, originally from Bihdia in Kamrup, had been missing for two days, raising concerns among neighbors who alerted the police. Upon investigation, authorities discovered Rs. 22,570 next to the body.
Dwijen had been living alone for the past four months, while his wife and daughter resided in Bamunimaidam. The couple was reportedly undergoing a divorce.
In a separate incident in the same week, Subhash Saha, an e-rickshaw driver from Gorchuk, allegedly murdered his wife at their residence in Ahom Gaon. Sources suggest the victim, a small vegetable stall operator, was killed by her husband, who later contacted their landlord to report the crime.
