

GANGTOK: Sikkim Minister of Education, Sports, and Youth Affairs Raju Basnet inaugurated a newly built eight-room school building at Aho Shanti Secondary School on Saturday. The opening was a major milestone to improve the school infrastructure in the area.
During the inauguration, Basnet commended the collective efforts that led to the successful completion of the new facility. He also took the opportunity to extend his best wishes to retiring teachers, encouraging them to pursue personal interests in their post-retirement phase.
Basnet, in his address, focused on the pivotal position of students in the education sector, adding that constructive progress is achieved when students utilize available learning and creative resources optimally. He discussed some state-level projects to improve education standards and sought cooperation for improving student enrollment. He also suggested that teachers conduct quarterly exams for board students and remedial classes for deserving students.
Narayan Mishra, Joint Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Education Department, emphasized the importance of discipline, dedication, and responsibility in developing academic and individual growth among the students. He also encouraged keeping the school clean and using technology responsibly.
Aho Shanti Secondary School Headmaster Isaac Lepcha gave an overview of the development and progress of the school, thanking the government for the new infrastructure and thanking retiring teachers for their contributions. The event included the award of citations to retiring teachers and had a cultural program with performances by students and teachers. Members of the local panchayat and district authorities were also present, adding strength to the fact that the community was supporting educational progress.
