Sikkim Government Felicitates Project Swastik of Border Roads Organization (BRO)

GUWAHATI: The Sikkim Government felicitated Project Swastik of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) for its yeomen’s contribution to the cause of tourism in the State.

The importance of tourism to Sikkim needs no emphasis and therefore the Sikkim Government has rightly acknowledged the services of an organization like BRO. Sikkim Chief Secretary AK Shrivastava lauded the efforts of Project Swastik and hoped BRO continues to serve Sikkim in years ahead with same verve and enthusiasm. In a function in Chintan Bhawan, he handed out certificates of appreciation to the Chief Engineer and Commanders of Swastik, stated a press release.

Swastik has a significant role as it maintains the vital road network in east and north Sikkim leading to the international border and many tourist spots in the region. The trade with China across Nathula Pass and conduct of holy Mansarovar Yatra depends on an efficient and reliable road network.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Swastik through its dedicated Border Roads Task Forces had played a major role in evacuating 3,000 stranded tourists on December 28-29 2018 near Nathula Pass by clearing the accumulated snow from the road surface on a war footing thereby lessening the hardship of tourists who could not move due to sudden snowfall in the evening. The BRO also displayed stellar character in re-opening of roads in seven days after a disastrous spell of monsoon in September 2018 that caused severance of road network in north Sikkim due to numerous landslides.
