Sikkim: Govt. Further Extends the Closure of Educational Institutes till June 25

Sikkim:

The govt. of Sikkim in continuation of the order by the Home Ministry dated April 24, 2021, has notified that all central and state government, government-aided, and private educational institutions, universities, colleges, tutorials, coaching institutes, and hostels will remain shut till until June 25, 2021. 

This decision was taken as an attempt to curb the spread of the deadly infectious disease keeping in mind the COVID-19 situation in the Himalayan state.

The notification issued by the Home Ministry included the following instruction to be followed during the closure period.

Work from home, online and offline classes must continue during the closure period in accordance with the COVID-19 protocol, and the dairy records of online or any other mode of classes must be kept by teaching faculty members, who must share them with the concerned head of the institution on a bi-monthly basis. The heads of institutions will then assemble the reports and submit them to the headquarters for inclusion in the learning repository, which will be used in the future for individuals who are unable to access the current setup. 

The first term examination, set for June 14-19, 2021, has been postponed till schools reopen, according to the notification. 

The notification further indicated that, with the assistance of district officials, schools in the areas of Rangpo, Mamring, and other sites where factories are located will be used as barracks for factory workers on a rental basis. 

In response to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, the Sikkim government prolonged its statewide lockdown for another week, till June 7.

According to a health department bulletin, the Himalayan state recorded 264 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 15,171, with three new fatalities bringing the total to 250.
