GANGTOK: Sikkim Police arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in the state's Namchi district. The accused has been booked under the stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act).

The police complaint filed by the victim states that the man lured her to his room for some sweets. He allegedly went on to make inappropriate physical contacts with her and solicited sexual favors.

The saddening incident has stunned the community, and law enforcement authorities have responded promptly with proper action. Investigation is underway and further details are underway.

Meanwhile, few months back another jolting incident that has left the community in shock, is that of the Sikkim Police arresting a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping his 15-year-old daughter. The despicable crime came to light after the brave victim filed a police complaint, revealing the horrific ordeal she had at the hands of her own father this August.

The police immediately launched an investigation and caught the accused when he was trying to evade arrest. A case had been registered against the accused under the stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

This arrest of the accused in both the cases serves as a reminder that child sexual abuse is still prevalent and there is an urgent need for greater vigilance and more stringent measures in protecting children.
