MUMBAI: The Sikkim senior men’s cricket team scripted a historic victory against powerhouse Rajasthan, a team brimming with star players, in today’s Vijay Hazare Trophy clash at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, January 6.

Rajasthan, featuring Indian internationals like Deepak Hooda, Rahul Chahar, and Khaleel Ahmed, was the clear favorite as they set out to chase a competitive target of 276.

The game seemed firmly in their control, with only 8 runs required and three wickets in hand as they entered the final over. But in a stunning turn of events, cricket’s unpredictability came alive in the last over, where Sikkim’s Ankur Malik emerged as the match-winner and secured an unlikely victory.

Malik became the hero of the match and delivered an extraordinary final over in which he claimed three wickets and conceded just a single run, turning the game on its head and securing a memorable 6-run victory for Sikkim.

With the result, Rajasthan finished third in the Group B points table with five wins and two losses from seven matches, behind Maharashtra and Railways. The Rajasthan cricket team will play Tamil Nadu in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 pre-quarterfinals match on Thursday.
