GANGTOK: Three people were severely injured in an accident that occurred on December 20 at Toribari in Sikkim's Zuluk involving a truck carrying Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) troops.

The tragedy occurred when the vehicle, which was transporting 12 people at the time, veered off course. Rescue crews and local authorities quickly reached the area to assess the condition of the injured. The exact reason behind this accident has not yet been ascertained.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, seven people died in a horrifying bus accident involving a Gangtok-Siliguri "Quality" bus in Bhotey Bhir, Rangpo side of West Bengal.

In total, about 15 individuals suffered various injuries and were transported to the hospitals in Gangtok for medical attention. While receiving medical care, two individuals died from their injuries, and five others died on the spot.

According to Kalimpong district officials, four of the deceased were from Bengal, two were from Sikkim, and one was from Bihar.

Authorities said that additional investigation would be done to determine the exact cause, even though preliminary investigations point to a possible driving error or mechanical failure.

The Kalimpong district magistrate had announced that ex-gratia payments of Rs. 2 lakh will be given to the families of the two West Bengal deceased. The Kalimpong district magistrate also visited the accident scene to assess whether extra security was necessary.
