GANGTOK : In a tragic incident, two construction site workers died after the collapse of an under-construction ropeway wall in Pelling, located in West Sikkim. 

The unfortunate incident took place on the 31st of December, 2022. Five people were engaged in the construction of a guard wall at the construction site of Ropeway in Pelling. A sudden mudslide occured in the place, after which two people died on spot and three luckily managed to escape the accident. 

The deceased workers post mortem was done in District Hospital Gyalshing. Their body was handed over to their respective families after teh autopsy process was done. 

Two workers present who escaped the incident has been identified as Sambad Ray and Basanta Roy. They were admitted in a higher medical center for treatment. A worker named, Sanjit Adhikary's condition is said to be normal and stable. 

After a preliminary police investigation, it was revealed that a total of eleven workers were working in the construction site at Sanga Choeling Pelling. They were all under the supervision of Santosh Chetri. 

Recently, an incident took place in Bengaluru where 13 workers from Assam died on spot after getting hit by a speeding vehicle. As per the police, the migrant workers were returning towards home when the vehicle hit them and escaped from the scene. 

The investigation report suggested that the vehicle was involved in hit and run case. The deceased's bodies were barely recognisable at they got scattered on the road. The impact was adverse, however Attibele police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Attibele government hospital. 

In the middle of this year, two engineers and a construction site worker died on spot in the North East Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO). The deceased has been identified as Jayanta Hazarika who was a project manager and Anupam Saikia, a deputy manager and the worker Dimaraj Jahari.
