
NEW DELHI: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay participated in the inauguration of the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, a significant cultural event celebrating the rich heritage and economic potential of Northeast India.
The festival was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam from December 6 to 8. The three-day Mahotsav showcases the diverse cultural traditions, arts, crafts, and agricultural products from the eight northeastern states, collectively known as “Ashtalakshmi.”
Chief Minister Tamang Golay stated, “The event aims to connect the region’s unique offerings to global markets while fostering economic growth in areas like handlooms, tourism, and rural development.”
Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Minister for DoNER; Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar; and Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from the northeastern states also attended the inauguration.
The festival features a variety of activities, including artisan exhibitions, Grameen Haats, state-specific pavilions, and technical sessions aimed at fostering regional development.
Tamang Golay further applauded the prime minister’s visionary efforts to transform the Northeast into a hub of opportunity and prosperity. The Mahotsav stands as evidence of India’s commitment to celebrating and uplifting the diverse cultures of the Northeast on the global stage, he added.
Major highlights of the Mahotsav include artisan exhibitions, Grameen Haats, state-specific pavilions, and technical sessions on regional development.
