Guwahati: An official release of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) stated that at least six construction projects of NFR will be completed in the year 2021. The official release said that these six projects include three new lines and three double-line projects.

Among these three new rail line projects, two will be International lines, which will connect India with its neighbouring countries, Bangladesh and Nepal. This was informed by the official release, which is issued by Dr Jayanta Kumar Sarma, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NFR Construction Organisation.

Northeast Frontier Railway(NFR) projects

The following projects are expected to be completed by the year 2021:

1. A 227-km long new gauge railway line from New Maynaguri in West Bengal to Jogighopa in Assam, which is targeted for completion by February 2021.

2. The doubling of 51.65-km long New Maynaguri – Gumanihat section is also at an advanced stage of completion and is targeted for completion by March 2021.

3. The doubling of 102-km long Digaru– Hojai section is also nearing completion and is targeted for completion by May 2021.

4. The doubling of 37.87-km long Ambari Falakata – New Maynaguri section is also nearing completion. Only 5.71 km of the project remains to be completed which is targeted for completion by January 2021.

5. A 3.46-km railway line from Nischintapur to Agartala is targeted for completion by September 2021.

6. A 18.6-km long new broad gauge International railway line from Jogbani to Biratnagar in Nepal. The first 8 km from Bathnaha to Nepal Customs point has been completed and the rest of the project, i.e. from Nepal Customs point to Biratnagar is targeted for completion by July 2021.

In another attempt, a total of 370 railway stations of the NFR region has been equipped with free Wi-fi activation in their premises. The facility of free Wi-fi in the railway stations is provided by the NFR as part of India's policy towards digitalisation. The official release stated that out of the total 370 railway stations empowered with the free facility, 213 are in Assam, 94 are in West Bengal, 35 are in Bihar, 20 are in Tripura, 3 are in Arunachal Pradesh, 2 in Nagaland and 1 each in Meghalaya, Manipur and Mizoram.
