16th Finance Commission Delegation Visits Tripura to Assess Finances and Development Plans

A 12-member team from the 16th Finance Commission, led by Dr. Arvind Panagariya, visited Tripura to assess the state's finances, development plans, and future resource allocation.

AGARTALA: A 12-member team from the 16th Finance Commission, led by Chairman Dr. Arvind Panagariya, arrived in Tripura on Wednesday to assess the state’s finances and development plans. They were welcomed at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala and then traveled to Paschim Majlishpur Gram Panchayat in the Jirania block of West Tripura district.

The delegation was joined by Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, the Director of the Panchayat and Land Revenue Department, and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Jirania.

An official stressed the importance of the visit, saying, "The Finance Commission’s assessment will be key in deciding the state's financial support and development priorities."

The delegation includes officials like A.N. Jha, Annie George Mathew, Dr. Manoj Panda, Somyakanti Ghosh, and others.

During their visit, the Finance Commission members will hold meetings with senior officials to discuss fiscal policies, resource distribution, and financial planning for Tripura. The delegation is expected to leave the state on February 1.

Meanwhile, the entire team of the 16th Finance Commission, headed by Chairman Arvind Panagariya, had arrived in Sikkim on January 19 for an important five-day visit aimed at assessing the state’s financial requirements and planning future allocations.

During their visit, the Finance Commission team was scheduled to meet with a variety of stakeholders, including state government representatives, financial experts, and local organizations. The discussions centred on reviewing the financial needs of the state, ensuring the effective allocation of resources, and strategizing future financial planning.
