Agartala: Local people of Kathaltali village under Kadamtala Police Station in North Tripura district seized 46 cows while entering into Tripura from Assam on way to their ultimate destination Bangladesh. The smugglers were using a rural road instead of the National Highway or other major roads to evade the police. A section of traders have adopted a new method of smuggling cows from Assam to Bangladesh via Tripura. They buy the cows from different markets of Barak Valley in Assam and bring them via secret roads to Kadamtala cattle market in Tripura. In the second step, these cows are smuggled to Bangladesh.

People were observing this illegal method for quite some time now and they were facing many problems as the cars carrying cows from Assam are using the rural roads. It is alleged that the police and other security forces are aware about these illegal business but remain silent for some mysterious reason. Ultimately the local people intervened and detained 46 cows which are now in the custody of the police.
