
DHAKA: Khowai Police handed over the body of a Bangladeshi national, Jahur Ali (55), to Bangladeshi authorities at the Khowai Puran Bazar International Checkpost in Tripura at 5 pm on Thursday.
Jahur Ali was a resident of Paschim Dulna village in Chunarughat Upazila, Habiganj district, Bangladesh.
The body was discovered on Tuesday morning on the veranda of a shop near the Gournagar Panchayat Office under Khowai Police Station. Following recovery, the body was sent to the district hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
The deceased was identified after photographs of the body were shared on social media, enabling locals in Bangladesh to recognize him. Subsequently, Khowai Police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), worked with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Chunarughat Police Station to arrange for the repatriation of the body.
After completing the necessary formalities and an investigation at Khowai District Hospital, the body was handed over in a coffin to Bangladeshi authorities. The process was facilitated through close cooperation between the police forces and border security agencies of both countries.
Meanwhile, earlier last week, Tripura Police apprehended two Bangladeshi nationals, including a minor girl, in West Chandrapur, Dharmanagar, under North Tripura district on Saturday. The duo, identified as Nazma (35) and her minor daughter, both residents of Khulna, Bangladesh, was intercepted while attempting to cross the international border back into Bangladesh.
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the residence of Nasir Ali in Chandrapur, where the two were found. However, five other people managed to run away from the scene when they saw the police.
