BJP Opts for Transparent & Clean Administration in Tripura

A CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that had won 92 per cent of seats including 86 per cent uncontested in the recently concluded three-tier Panchayat election in Tripura has announced their candidates for the election to the posts of ‘Sabhadhipati’ and ‘Saha-Sabhadhipati’ of all the Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samities and also the posts of ‘Pradhan’ and ‘Upa-Pradhan’ of the panchayat bodies from among the elected members. Though the party has declared the list of candidates, none of them will be required to contest as in these bodies no Opposition candidate has been elected.

Ratan Lal Nath, head of the committee for running panchayat election for the party said this in a press conference. He further informed that the list was approved at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb who is also the State president of the party.

Nath also said that while selecting the candidates, the party gave more emphasis on acceptability, educational qualification and integrity. Female candidates also were given special attention. Females were selected as candidates in four of the eight Zilla Parishads, and they were given due representation at the other local bodies as well. In some panchayats, their representation even crossed 70 per cent. He said Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste candidates were given adequate representation in the panchayats. The BJP wants a transparent administration at the rural level and has therefore nominated educated people with a clean image, Nath added.
