Border Security Force Jawan Injured by Bangladeshi Cattle Smugglers in Tripura

Agartala: One Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured, when a group of Bangladeshi cattle smugglers attacked on BSF party during smuggling bid at Kamthana under Madhupur police station of Sepahijala district on Friday evening.

According to the BSF statement, on Friday evening BSF Constable Sarwan and Constable Natwarwere on OP duty in the area of responsibility of BOP Kamthana, 74 Bn BSF. Constable Natwar saw some miscreants near border fencing trying to cross some cattle from India to Bangladesh side through old fence breach gap.

On this, he challenged them, but they did not pay attention. Then, he fired one round of Pump Action Gun (PAG) and simultaneously lobbed one stun grenade towards the miscreants, to stop them.

Meanwhile, BSF Constable Natwar was encircled by the Indian and Bangladeshi group of miscreants/smugglers, 20-22 in numbers and overpowered him, numerically with sheer strength. They injured above BSF Constable on duty carrying out his legal duty and snatched his PAG armed with non-lethal munition and escaped towards Bangladesh.

BSF reinforcement immediately reacted. BSF approached BGB authorities and immediate Company and Battalion Commander level meetings were held. The Senior Officers also rushed to the spot and strong protest on the happenings of the incident was communicated to BGB Comdr. On September 22, 2018, at about 10:30 AM, Unit Comdr level meeting was called and the snatched weapon with ammunition was handed over by BGB to BSF, in good friendly gesture. BSF asked BGB for stringent action against the defaulters of Bangladesh and we are in process to lodge FIR against Indian smugglers involved in the incident.
