AGARTALA: Campaigning for the East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency concluded on Sunday evening. During the earlier part of the day, all the political parties tried their best to make a last-minute impact on the voters as a series of road shows, bike processions were seen across the constituency – two-third of which passes through hills and hilly terrains.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb led his party in the month-long campaign while the daughter of the former Maharaja of Tripura and Congress candidate Pragya Debbarma used her royal legacy to impress the voters. Her mother — Bibhu Kumari Devi, a former minister — and Pradyot Bikram Kishor Debbarman — her brother, who is also the Pradesh Congress president, campaigned for her.

CPI(M) candidate and sitting MP Jiten Choudhury also campaigned across the constituency though no star campaigner was there. Revenue Minister of the State’s BJP-IPFT coalition government Narendra Chandra Debbarman, who is also the president of the IPFT, is also contesting the election separately.

Polling for the East Tripura constituency was scheduled for April 18 but the Election Commission rescheduled it on April 23 following report that the condition is not conducive. Additional forces also have been deployed in the constituency to ensure free-and-fair election.
