AGARTALA: The Ministry of Tribal Welfare has approved six more Ekalavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) for Tripura. State Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma made the announcement on Tuesday.
Debbarma said the decision was finalized during a meeting with Vibhu Nair, Secretary of the Ministry of Tribal Welfare, in New Delhi on Monday. He said the initiative would further strengthen the education infrastructure in both rural and hilly areas.
“These schools will not only provide access to quality education but also help build leadership, creativity, and self-confidence among children from tribal-dominated areas,” the minister said. “Education is not just a curriculum; it is the backbone of a nation. Through this decision, we want to further strengthen that backbone,” he stated.
The six new EMRS will be equipped with modern infrastructure, residential facilities, and a holistic environment for the overall development and academic excellence of tribal students.
The minister stated that the implementation work would begin soon through a joint collaboration between the centre and the state government.
Tripura already has 21 EMRS schools set up by the central government, many of which are now fully functional. These schools have made it possible for students in remote areas to access better educational opportunities.
