Agartala: The Central Government has sanctioned Rs 365 crore for setting up an Integrated Check Post at Sabroom. Home Minister Amit Shah approved the file in this regard on Wednesday. Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb disclosing it while inaugurating the four-day Tribal Cultural Festival in the State hit out at the Opposition political parties saying it is a befitting reply to those who say the State got nothing from the BJP government in the Center.

Pointing out to the previous Left Front government he said the State got an additional Rs 2,500 crore which the State could not imagine of during the last 25 years.

The Chief Minister last week met the Union Home Minister in New Delhi and requested him to expedite the proposal for an ICP at Sabroom where the Center has already sanctioned setting up a Multi-Product Special Economic Zone. The State Government is attaching maximum importance on setting up of the SEZ and the ICP as it will open the doors for the State to the international market through the Chittagong Port of Bangladesh. Construction of a bridge on River Fenny to connect the two countries is under progress.

The four-day Tribal Cultural Festival is one of the major events in the government’s cultural calendar but it assumed special significance this year in view of the forthcoming election of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. The Chief Minister did not miss the opportunity to disseminate some message to the tribal voters on this occasion and said his government is committed for their development but, hinting out at the present CPM-led ADC administration, said it is a stumbling block in way of the development of the tribal areas.
