Concern over the Revival of Rebel Activities in Tripura

A Correspondent

Agartala: Amid reports that the only significant insurgent leader still at large and belonging to National Liberation Front of Tripura Jogendra Debbarma alias Jasua has entered Tripura a few days back, the intelligence sources are in tenterhook over reports that the outfit has started serving subscription notice to people living in various hilly areas. Till now the reports over subscription notice was just hearsay but that got credence when a person filed a complaint at Jirania Police Station alleging that the NLFT insurgents served a Rs 10,000 subscription notice and forced him to pay Rs 7,000. According to him there are many others who received such notice and many of them have already paid subscription to ensure their security.

Jirania Police station also admitted receiving such an allegation and registered a case. Suman Majumder, Sub-divisional Police Officer told the reporters that the police are investigating the matter.

The State is insurgency free for last many years and the last batch of NLFT insurgents has recently surrendered arms and returned to normal life. This is being considered as a good sign but the fresh reports of subscription notice have evoked fresh tension.

However, official sources rejected that possibility of revival of insurgency in the state but see a big conspiracy to disturb the peace and tranquility of the state.
