Agartala: Tension prevails around Mandai areas of Jirania sub-division over the alleged attack on Congress workers and ransacking of the stage prepared for a public meeting by supporters of the IPFT, a constituent of the ruling alliance led by BJP in the State. The IPFT also allegedly warned the Congress leaders of dire consequence if any political activities are undertaken in the area.

TPCC president Pijush Kanti Biswas was supposed to address the meeting at Nabin Singh Para, a few km from Mandai but the attack took place just before he reached the venue. Leaders like Rajeswar Debbarma, Tajen Das and Baptu Chakraborty were there when the attack took place.

Later reaching the spot, Biswas said it is an ominous sign before the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council election and reflects the attitude of the ruling alliance who believes in capturing power forcibly.

Talking to the reporters, he said the meeting was organized with the prior permission of the police but they failed to provide the necessary security. Biswas demanded the immediate arrest of the miscreants and said they will agitate before the police headquarter demanding action against those involved in the incident.
