Agartala: Doctors in Tripura are very much worried about dealing with coronavirus cases as there is hardly any personal protection equipment PPE) available with the Health department and the doctors apprehend that they may become vulnerable in case the virus spreads in the State. A delegation of the All Tripura Government Doctors Association met Director of Health Dr. Radha Debbarma and demanded that necessary PPE must be arranged immediately.

Altogether 87 persons in the State were sent to quarantine but all of them were tested negative barring one who is suspected as a coronavirus career and is being tested.

The ATGDA delegation led by general secretary Dr. Rajesh Chowdhury along with other leaders of the association including Dr. Kanak Choudhury after their meeting with the Health Director said that they sought the department’s help to avoid and contain the spread of coronavirus.

The doctors sought proper infrastructure in every district hospital of the State, especially for quarantine wards and preparation of proper isolation wards at the GB Hospital, which has been prepared but not in an adequate manner. They also demanded the creation of isolation wards with all medical facilities in hotels or guest houses of the State. Considering the gravity of nature, the government should develop the Bhagat Singh Youth hostel of Agartala as an isolation ward with all medical facilities, the doctors said.

The doctors also expressed their concern over the non-availability of special anti-corona kits (special protective dress) for doctors, nurses and other hospital staff, who will be engaged in the treatment of infected patients. They also demanded a supply of an adequate number of masks. The ATGDA authorities also requested Dr. Radha Debbarma to ensure the early supply of medical protection kits for medicos considering the pandemic situation of coronavirus across the globe.
