Defeat BJP, prevent Citizenship Amendment Bill: Jiten Choudhury urges voters

a cORRESPONDENT

Agartala: Member of Parliament and CPI (M) candidate for East Tripura tribal reserve constituency Jitendra Choudhury urged voters to defeat BJP to prevent the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

Addressing a series of public meetings in Dhalai district on Tuesday, he said “People of this region are facing many problems. The government can’t provide sufficient food or job to the people and the BJP is now trying to invite people belonging to the Hindu community living in neighbouring the country to come here.”

Citing the widespread agitation the region has witnessed recently against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, he said that the BJP government has backtracked as the elections are around but they will reintroduce it if they win the election and form a government in the Centre again. He took a potshot to the BJP’s terming the tribals as ‘Janajati’ and said it is insulting for the indigenous people of the State. He alleged that instead of developing the tribals they are trying to give a wrong impression about their existence.
