Demand grows for LPG bottling plant in northern Tripura

A Correspondent

Agartala: Demand for setting up a LPG bottling plant in northern Tripura is gaining ground as the present system of gas supply in the three northern Tripura districts of North Tripura, Unokuti and Dhalai could not keep pace with the increasing demand.

Currently, LPG cylinders for the three districts are being supplied from two bottling plants at Agartala and Silchar, but this is inadequate compared to the demand. Recently, a large number of LPG connections have been issued in these districts but no steps have been taken to increase the supply of gas causing hardship for the consumers. It is being felt that setting up a bottling plant somewhere in the middle of three districts will be economically beneficial. At present, the LPG gas filled bullets from Guwahati goes to the Bishalghar bottling plant near Agartala and filled up cylinders again return to these district through the same way.

If a bottling plant is set up in northern Tripura, the two-way movement of the same gas will not be required and the transportation cost will be reduced considerably. It also will ensure the smooth supply of gas to the consumers. One of the consumers said setting up of a LPG bottling plant is also needed considering the future requirements as many areas are still remained uncovered and the government is committed to provide gas connection to the people residing in those areas.
