LS POLLS IN TRIPURA & MIZORAM
AGARTALA: Two former directors of government media arms, the Doordarshan (DD) and the All India Radio (AIR) are going to contest in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election from Tripura and Mizoram. A renowned footballer is also in the race for a Parliamentary berth from Mizoram adding color to the State’s electoral scenario.
Former Director of All India Radio, Agartala, Narendra Chandra Debbarma, currently the Revenue Minister and the President of the Indigenous Peoples’ Front of Twipra (IPFT) has been named by his party as the candidate for the East Tripura (Tribal Reserve) constituency.
Though a partner in the State’s coalition government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the IPFT has decided to contest the election separately after negotiation over sharing of seats failed. It also named Sukla Charan Noatia as the party candidate for the West Tripura (General) constituency.
Members of the Central Committee (MCC), the highest policy-making body of the IPFT has decided to contest the election separately but it will not affect the government. “We will go for a friendly contest,” a resolution said.
The lone Lok Sabha seat from Mizoram is also going to witness a tussle between two celebrities of the State. Former Director of Doordarshan, Aizawl, and celebrated personality Lalrosanga is going to contest prominent sports personality Lalghinlova. A former member of the Mizoram football team, Lalghinlova is a prominent sports organizer and is currently the secretary of the Mizoram Football Association. He is also a sports journalist and the editor of a local newspaper.
