Hectic politicking in Tripura hills as TTAADC polls near

Agartala: Political excitement is increasing in hilly areas of Tripura as the election for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) is drawing closer and the political activists are positioning themselves for the fray.

As obvious fallout of this phase, political activists are changing their loyalty and in the southern districts of the State, the ruling BJP and its alliance partner, the IPFT, are locked in a bitter tussle trying to break each other’s bastions. The main opposition CPI(M) is the worst looser as its rich treasure of yesteryears in the tribal dominated areas became the target of both the parties.

Though partner in the government, the BJP and the IPFT is leaving no chance to break each others organization. In a meeting at Karoi Chandra Para 93, people of 21 families joined the BJP. The party leaders said majority of them belonged to the CPI(M) while a good number is from IPFT. BJP Mandal president Ashok Sen, Sanjib Reang, Sambhu Mog and Upendra Reang were present in the meeting.

In a counter move, at Birchandra Nagar, the IPFT succeeded in bringing about a major division in the ranks of the BJP and the CPI(M). They said 116 people belonging to 27 families have joined them. Revenue Minister and the president of the IPFT Narendra Chandra Debbarma welcomed them in the party in the presence of MLA Brishaketu Debbarma, Sukla Charan Noatia, Manik Reang, Balendra Reang and Kapil Reang.
