Agartala: A serious initiative has been taken to acquire land for the proposed National Highway 208, popularly known as an alternative road to connect Dharmanagar in North Tripura district and Agartala, a major part of which goes through Khowai district.

In a bid to make acquisition process trouble-free, the Khowai sub-divisional administration held a meeting with the villagers whose land will fall within the proposed road. Representatives of the funding organizations – the Japan International Corporation and the National Highway Construction Corporation, who are entrusted with the task of constructing the road, also were present in the meeting.

A stretch of 48-km of the proposed road falls within Khowai district starting from Teliamura to Sukiabari via Khowai. Out of this, 31 km falls within Khowai sub-division. This stretch was considered as most complicated as local residents are against handing over their lands. In this stretch, few schools and government offices are also situated but the sub-divisional administration informed that this problem will be solved within the next few days.

The meeting mainly discussed about the problems of the private land owners and the additional SDM assured that compensation will be paid to all as per rules.

Various questions raised by the land owners also were answered. The land owners also raised some other problems which also were replied.
