KAMALPUR: In a turn of events, journalists from Kamalpur, Tripura, boycotted the Chief Minister of the State, Biplab Kumar Deb. They call their act a mark of protest against the rising attacks on different sections of the media in the state. The CM went to Kamalpur in Dhalai district on Saturday to attend a programme, however, no journalist covered the event.

In an attack on the media, 6000 copies of a newspaper — 'Pratibadi Kalam' — published from the State were destroyed by miscreants in Udaipur on the morning of last Saturday.

The secretary of the Kamalpur Press Club, Supriya Datta said, "Attacks on media are increasing in Tripura. The journalists boycotted the Chief Minister to protest against these attacks." A good number of journalists also went to the police headquarters in Agartala to meet the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Southern Range. They said if the culprits, who had destroyed the newspaper copies, are not arrested at the earliest the journalists would start a demonstration in front of the police headquarter. (Agencies)
