Large Number of Rohingyas Near Border; BSF Alerted

Agartala: The BSF has been alerted after reports that a large number of Rohingya refugees have assembled on the other side of the border along Sabroom in South Tripura and are trying to sneak into India crossing the Fanny river.

Reports from across the border said over 600 Rohingya refugees have assembled in different parts of Ramgarh town in Chittagong Hill Tract. They have come from various refugee camps in the hilly hamlets near Cox Bazar in Bangladesh. The total number of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar now residing in Bangladesh is over 8 lakh.

Infiltration of Rohingya refuges through Bangladesh was detected on many occasions in Tripura and other neighbouring States in the past, but this is for the first time that such an organized move has been noticed. The security forces have already taken note of the move and have alerted the BSF to increase vigil along the international border.

There were reports that a good number of refugees are fleeing from the refugee camps and spreading to different districts of Bangladesh and the government of that country also expressed concern over the development. Some steps have also been taken to ensure that the refugees can’t come out of the camps but the authorities in Bangladesh could not totally plug the outflow of refugees.

Meanwhile, reports from different sources have indicated that some anti-Indian forces especially Pakistan’s ISI have already established bases among the refugees. The ISI is funding several organizations to work among them and to cause problems for India. The recent move to infiltrate refugees in large numbers appears to be part of that larger game.
