Man Killed as Mud Wall Collapses in Tripura's South Dist, CM Announces Rs 5 Lakh Ex-Gratia

AGARTALA: A person died after a mud wall collapsed on him when he was asleep at home in the early hours of Wednesday at Sonia Chari village under Belonia sub-division of Tripura's South District.

The mud-wall collapsed on him due to the heavy rainfall which caused a flood in the Sub-division since last night. The deceased was identified as Narayan Bhowmik (20).

After the incident Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the deceased's family.

According to sources from Chief Minister's office, immediately after the incident Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb talked with the District Magistrate of the South Tripura district Saju Vaheed and directed him to assist the family of the deceased with Rs 15,000 instantly. He also directed the officials to help the family with Rs 5 lakh compensation.

Similarly two more children were also injured due to a similar incident at the Jharjharia area under the Belonia sub-division. Police sources said that they had been hospitalized.

Heavy storm accompanied with thundershowers lashed South district of Tripura late on Tuesday night inundating croplands, houses, and other private establishments.

Chief Minister Deb also directed the local MLA to visit the residence of the affected families and extend all possible assistance to them.

The Chief Minister said that he is constantly monitoring the flood situation in Belonia sub-division.

"At the midnight of August 24th, the heavy storm was reported in South Tripura. I have been constantly in touch with local authorities and monitoring the situation", Deb wrote on his social media handle.

He also wrote, "Local authorities and BLN FS personnel are leading the rescue operations on the ground since midnight. I assure everyone, no stones will be unturned in providing any kind of assistance to the individuals affected by the storm. CMO is committed to providing all necessary help and support".
