‘Mass hysteria’ hits Tripura family

A Correspondent

Agartala: In what appears to be a case of ‘mass hysteria’, altogether nine members of a family at Thalibari village under Jatrapur police station in Sonamura sub-division, all of a sudden, have lost their mental balance.

It is learnt that Moumita Tripura, the daughter of Gour Chandra Tripura suddenly began behaving in an erratic manner with other household members beginning January 24.

Meanwhile, Moumita was treated by a local witch doctor. This failed and subsequently her volatile behavior increased to such an extent that she began exhibiting ‘beastly attitude’.

And due to some unexplained reason, other members of the family – Sukla Tripura (24), Sonalaxmi Tripura (40), Rajendra Tripura (30), Saraswati Tripura (17), Purnima Tripura (18), Uttam Tripura (8), Rahima Tripura (6) and Pushpa Kumar Tripura (16) – also were overwhelmed with insanity.

A pall of dismay and panic has descended upon Thalibari following this extraordinary sequence of events in the Tripura household.

As a result, local residents are living in a state of constant angst and fear whereas medical practitioners have been left baffled by this incident.

Moreover, even the fire service officials, the police and Tripura State Rifles have failed to convince the relatives of the family to get them admitted in a psychiatric hospital.
