A correspondent

Agartala: The Mizoram government will soon start a bus service between Aizawal and Jampui Hills of Tripura. Mizoram State Transport Corporation will operate the service. A team of Mizoram officials recently visited the Jampui Hills to look after facilities here.

Mizo National Front led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga in their election manifesto had promised to establish closer ties with Mizos living outside the state at Bangladesh, Mayanmar, Manipur and Tripura. The proposal for bus service between Aizwal and the Tripura’s Mizo dominated Jampui Hills is a step to fulfil that commitment.

On 29-30 August, an official team from Mizoram led by Mr R Lalbiakdika, Asst Director (OP-B) and Mr Kawlchhuana, Asst Director (Booking) arrived in Jampui Hill to work out the final logistical and technical arrangements of the new interstate bus service. The team was satisfied with what it found and returned back in state with positive notes for giving green signal.

When asked about the significance of the interstate bus service, Zairemthiama Pachuau, General Secretary of Jampui Hill Mizo Convention exhorted, &quot. This initiative from Mizoram government will bring the people of the two states closer, integrates culture and makes it thrives, boosts trade and tourism; and also demonstrates goodwill gestures for other states to follow.
