GUWAHATI: A team of senior railway officials representing the Lumding Division and NF Railway Construction Organization recently held a meeting with officials of the Tripura Government and officials from Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) at Sabroom in Tripura, stated a press release.

Officials from department of Industries and Commerce, Customs and Transport of Tripura were also present. The meeting was aimed to facilitate working together for integrated planning and coordinated implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects for seamless transportation of goods and cargo through railways.

The meeting, organized on April 6, was also attended by MLA of Sabroom Shankar Roy. Senior officials of the Lumding Division, including Amit Jaiswal, Senior Divisional Engineer, KK Sharma, Senior Divisional Operations Manager, Ramesh Kumar Mahato, Divisional Commercial Manager and Area Railway Manager, Badarpur Deepak Kumar Murmu were present in the discussion.

The NF Railway team along with other officials also visited the site of the Integrated Check Post (ICP), a strategic project for seamless transportation that is coming up at Sabroom (Tripura). A series of projects are also being implemented by LPAI at Sabroom ICP. Further, setting up of Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Logistic Hub and Rubber Park is planned by Government of Tripura to generate additional economic and to promote other developmental activities.

In the meeting NF Railway officials briefed all present about the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal scheme, which will help in implementing these projects in a time-bound manner and enable them to have direct connectivity with Railways. If it becomes effective, it will make the cargo handling and transportation from the Land Port much faster and efficient. In the discussion, it was planned that railway connectivity will be provided inside ICP for the benefit of all stakeholders and the proposal regarding the same will be submitted to the NF Railway authority by the LPAI at the earliest.

PM Gati Shakti initiative aims for seamless and simplified coordinated infrastructure projects. Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals will further aid to streamline railways cargo movement as well as eliminate bottlenecks for transportation to benefit the last-mile customer.

Once these infrastructural projects are effectively implemented, it will help in improving connectivity as well as assist the Northeastern region becoming a logistic hub leading to economic transformation.
