Over 60,000 Fake Ration Cards Identified in Tripura

The state government in Tripura have identified over 60,000 ration cards and 2,90,776 fake PDS consumers during a digitization drive by the state government. The Law Minister of Tripura Ratan Lal Nath stated this on Wednesday.

Currently, the Tripura government is more focused on the implementation of digitization and e-government services and the reason behind this move is to end corruption and bring accountability in public services.

Nath further said, "We conducted a verification through a digitization drive and found that 62,340 ration cards and 2,90,776 PDS consumers are fake."

Notably, a total of 9,62,046 ration cards were registered during the erstwhile Left Front government. Of these ration cards, only 8,99,706 cards were declared as genuine by the new BJP-IPFT government that assumed the office in the state on March 9 this year.

As according to the state norms, a ration card is given to a family and not an individual including names of all members of the family in Tripura; this is really shocking to find so many face ration cards.

Similarly, of the total 39,40,277 PDS beneficiaries that were registered during the Left regime. But later, the figures came down to 36,59,501 during the digitization drive.
