Agartala: The controversy over alleged illegal occupation of land, meant for setting up of a park in the name of a CPI(M) leader, by a group of the BJP supporters took a new turn as the new occupants claimed that they laid the foundation stone of a Ram Mandir on a land donated by the owner for the purpose.

The controversy is going on since the Biswa Sanatan Sena workers in presence of BJP state vice-president Subal Bhoumik performed some religious rituals on the land at Matai area under Belonia Sub-division in South Tripura district few days ago and announced that a Ram Temple will be built there.

The CPI(M) immediately protested against the move and claimed that the land is meant for setting up of a park in the name of Mohini Tripura who was killed in police firing in 1970’s when participating in a demonstration demanding right for Jhum cultivation.

They also alleged that the Sanatan Sena activists had demolished a foundation stone laid by former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on the land in the year 2016. CPI(M) south district president Tapash Datta has filed a case in Belonia police station alleging illegal occupation of land donated by one well wisher.

The controversy took a new turn when the state president of the Biswa Sanatan Sena Mrinal Sen denied illegal occupation and claimed that the owner of the land Narayan Baidya himself donated the land to the religious and social organization and even showed the document to the journalists.

He alleged that the CPI(M)’s mischievous campaign has tarnished the image of the organization and said they will launch a demonstration against such activities of the CPI(M).
