PM Modi, Sheikh Hasina to inaugurate Akhaura rail project

AGARTALA: The Bangladesh portion of the Agartala-Akhaura Railway project will be inaugurated jointly by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina on September 10.

The two leaders will inaugurate the project through video conferencing from New Delhi and Dhaka.

The project will connect Agartala with Akhaura through railways. Land acquisition for the Indian part of the project has almost completed and the preliminary work also in progress. India will bear all the expenditure of the project. Preparation for the programme is going on and reportedly figured when the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harshavardhan Sringla met the foreign secretary of Bangladesh Sahidul Haque on Wednesday.

Sources from across the border said they discussed the outcome of BIMSTEC conference and many other issues. Later talking to the reporters Shringla said many projects especially in rail and fuel sector India is going to launch in Bangladesh and these are almost in the final stage. He expected a series of VIP visit in coming days for the inauguration or laying of foundation stone of these projects.
