

AGARTALA: The Northeast Indian state of Tripura witnessed multiple incidents of violence after the voting process was conducted on February 16. As many as 16 incidents of violence were reported across five districts and a total of 21 people were arrested in relation to these incidents.
A Communist Party of India (Marxist) supporter was also killed in the Khowai district of the state of Tripura, but the state police mentioned that the death had happened in a purely non-political incident.
Tripura Police said that after personal enmity and a fight with the Panchayat Pradhan of Dwarikapur Gram Panchayat in Khowai district, Krishna Kamal Das attacked Dilip Sukla Das aged 50 years late on Saturday night. He was critically injured in the incident and was thereafter shifted to the Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital. The political worker succumbed to his injuries in the medical facility.
“Police did not allow us to pay the last respect to the victim. Taliban rule is going on in Tripura. Police violated human rights by not giving the body of Sukla Das to his family. " mentioned the state secretary.
CPIM Tripura state Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury mentioned that Krishna Kamal Das called Dilip Sukla Das out from his home on Saturday night and attacked him.
The chief electoral officer of Tripura mentioned that 400 companies of CAPF were deployed in the state ahead of the elections but a large number have been transferred to election-bound Meghalaya and Nagaland. These two states from Northeast India will go for elections on February 27 and the counting of all three states will be conducted on March 2.
The Chief Electoral Official also mentioned that 89.17% of the 13,99,289 women voters and 86.12% of the 14,15,233 men voters turned out. A total of 87.63% turnout was calculated on the basis of the votes polled in EVMs. This excludes the votes of the postal ballot and service votes, cast by the polling, security personnel and those who were engaged in the polling process.
